Wednesday Pack Activities (3/5/2025)

Adventure Pack

A calm, friendly dog stopped to sniff hello with the pack while everyone was still on leash. Lucy and Bear were happy to say hello. Ruffers was indifferent. Tozai was pulling from my other side, so we practiced some self control and let the other dog go by after Lucy and Bear greeted more calmly. A short while later, a yellow Lab carrying a big branch - the same Lab as the other day - paused to sniff hello with Bear, who politely greeted and then let him go by without any attempt to steal his prize. Ruffers was off leash with Bear, but again was not that interested. Bear started off leading the way, but then fell back and followed along with Ruffers, checking out all of the sniffing spots she found. Tozai and Lucy got their turn off leash after that. At first, they calmly trotted just ahead of the rest of us. Eventually, Tozai was overcome with wild puppy impulses and he started jumping all over Bear, who started jumping around in turn. I was impressed with Lucy's social skills when she saw me moving to interrupt Tozai, ran over to get Tozai's attention, led him on a short chase, then returned to my side and sat in place, making it easier for me to get Tozai back on leash as he came to her and she stayed put.

Variety Pack

Lumi was very set on stopping at the grassy hill he likes on our walk along Goose Creek Greenway this afternoon. He lay down and took a load off while Alfie, Dylan, and Griff all sniffed around in the nearby bushes. The prairie dogs were out again today. Alfie and Lumi both watched them intently, and Alfie made a couple moves towards them, especially when one popped up from a hole right at the edge of the path. I wonder whether it was the same one we encountered at that spot yesterday. Griff and Dylan didn't bother with the prairie dogs even when they were close by.
