Adventure Pack
When I let Tozai off leash with Ruffers on today's hike, his first instinct was to harass Lucy to try to get her to play with him - who was still on leash with me. This was exactly the scenario I was looking for, because Tozai is learning how to mind his manners better with his packmates when we're on the move. It only took addressing it once with him today, and then he went the rest of the hike without trying to mount or chew on the others. Instead, he took Ruffers' cue and just roamed and sniffed along the trail. Bear and Lucy took their turn off leash later on. They jogged around a bit as they explored, but didn't get into any big chases. We encountered a group of mellow off-leash dogs at one point. The pack mostly reflected that energy back, except Lucy couldn't quite contain herself and jumped up on her hind legs as we made our way past. Tozai and Bear kept turning to look back, but kept all four on the floor and didn't pull hard. Ruffers was the model canine citizen.
Variety Pack
Alfie, Griff, and Lumi headed to Valmont Dog Park this afternoon. It was our first visit there in a while. It was mostly empty, with only between 3-8 other dogs there at a given time. Alfie and Griff were very interested in making friends, while Lumi was more curious about the smells to be found. Alfie got chased by a couple different dogs. Griff was very excited to catch a tennis ball I threw for him. Lumi had one wild outburst of energy. He scratched at the ground a few times then raced, full-speed, for several big loops all by himself. After that, the dogs all became very interested in a squirrel that was in the big tree at the southeast end of the park. Griff and Lumi both climbed partway up in their eagerness to get at it.
