Wednesday Pack Activities

Adventure Pack

It was cool and overcast as Dylan, Ruffers, Avo and Bear headed up to the Anemone Trail from Eben G. Fine Park this morning. With no sun to tempt them out, we didn't see any snakes stretched across the trail today. Bear came on a bit forward with a couple dogs we encountered while he and Dylan were off leash, causing them to detour around the trail and not say hello to the rest of the pack. Ruffers and Avo had better luck with more polite manners when they were off leash.

Variety Pack

Jen joined for the afternoon to help with a very big pack walk. Sanni, Archie, Lou, Lumi, Racer, Carl, Buddy and Zoey all headed to the Goose Creek Greenway from Valmont Park. There was some thunder rumbling in the distance when we first set out, and I was expecting to have to turn around early; however, the rain held off and the thunder subsided before long. Lou and Zoey made a lot of abrupt stops early on to sniff in the grass, and Carl was happy to stop and leave his mark whenever he could. Archie tried to stir things up with Sanni every so often, but Sanni rebuked his advances, conveying that it was walking time - not wrestling time - and that Archie should wise up, even though she was more than happy to wrestle around with him at the house before the walk. Buddy and Archie also did their share of wrestling before the walk, while Lumi watched from the sidelines and barked about it. Racer pulled less than usual as she trotted along between Buddy and Lumi. At one point, we encountered a flock of about a dozen geese walking toward us on the path. They kept waddling without any sign of stopping, so we turned around and headed a different way. Along the alternate route I noticed what I thought were crickets hopping around in the grass while the dogs were sniffing and relieving themselves. Upon closer inspection, it was evident that they were in fact baby frogs or toads - dozens of them, if not hundreds, were hopping around at the edge of the path for a long stretch. They were incredibly small - no bigger than the tip of my index finger. The dogs didn't take any notice of them. Rain started lightly sprinkling on us as we made our way back to the packmobile to wrap up the walk.
