Adventure Pack
On our way down the mountain today, Rey started to pull ahead with her ears perked up and Racer started veering back and forth beside her as though she was following a scent. A moment later, Griff lifted his nose to the air and sniffed as he walked. Their attentions settled on the thick brush in the ravine to our left as we descended Chautauqua Trail. With how alert they were, my suspicion is that a bear was roaming around down in there. Even though Arlo is the only one among them who I know to have actually caught a wild animal before - a rabbit in our yard a few months ago - he was the only one who didn't seem perturbed. Come to think of it, Griff did charge a bear that one time a couple years ago. Anyway, at the end of our hike, Arlo took some water from the CamelBak for the first time!
Variety Pack
Carl, Alfie, Dylan, and Lumi strolled through the grass of Martin Park under the shade of the trees at the start of our outing. We took a very easy pace whenever we had shade, as it ended up being quite a hot afternoon. I remember when we had a major snowstorm by this time a few years ago - a far cry from the heat wave we've had since late May, with highs rarely dropping below the upper 80s. The boys took a load off at the mile-marker boulder by the basketball courts, where we typically stop on our Bear Creek Greenway walks. On the way back, everybody jumped at the sudden, echoey thud of a skateboard rolling over the seam between the path and the footbridge we had just crossed. After the skateboard passed by us, Alfie offered a single, reticent woof of disapproval.
