Monday Pack Activities (2/3/2025)

Adventure Pack

Due to the high winds of the past day, the trails at Shanahan Ridge were far less muddy than they would normally have been from all the melting snow. On our way out, Rey, Bear, Ruffers, and Tozai found a boulder with interesting scents and spent a good minute or two thoroughly investigating it. We came across a few friendly dogs along the way, including a couple very mild-mannered Rhodesian Ridgebacks who reminded me of our late packmate Benny. Tozai had his first off-leash time with the pack, with Rey. At first, he stayed close by. After a few minutes, he started following Rey around about 10-15 yards from the rest of us. When Rey realized she had his attention, she took the opportunity to race around while Tozai chased her. After a little while of that, I called them back over, gave everyone a treat, and put Tozai back on leash. It went well! On the return stretch, Tozai picked up a pinecone and chewed it a bit. When I had him drop it, Bear picked it up and carried it for a little while before dropping it. At that point, Tozai took it back and carried it awhile himself before he started chewing on it again and I had him drop it again. Rey and Ruffers didn't involve themselves with the pinecone.

Variety Pack

Racer, Lou, Alfie, Lumi, Carl, Dylan, and Arlo all walked Goose Creek Greenway from Valmont Park with a hand from Jen this afternoon. Dylan, Lumi, and Alfie all took advantage of a remaining snow bank along the way. Dylan and Alfie just lay down and poked their noses into the snow; Lumi stretched out and rolled all around. Carl, Racer, Arlo, and Lou just stood by while their packmates did their thing. Out past the railroad track underpass, the whole pack was intensely interested in a metal signpost. Dylan and Lumi had both pulled a bit toward it on the way out when it was on the other side of the path. On the way back, everybody instantly swarmed when we got near, and sniffed around it for a few minutes.
