Monday Pack Activities (11/25/2024)

Adventure Pack

Sanni and Rey veered off the path and into the brush several times on our way up the mountain. Ruffers and Bear were happy to join them in sniffing around. We saw a lot of other dogs during our ascent. They were on leash and we passed by without saying hello because Sanni and Rey got a bit too worked up when we got near. Later on, Bear chased a friendly dog around a bit. Ruffers trotted over and greeted the dog when she came close in between runs with Bear. Rey and Sanni were again quite worked up, groaning and lunging toward the dog, so she opted to pass by without coming up to greet the more unruly pups.

Variety Pack

Dylan, Lou, Racer, Arlo, Teo and Carl walked Goose Creek Greenway this afternoon. We kept a fairly slow but steady pace throughout the walk. Teo was very excited again to greet his packmates in the packmobile, more like his first pack outing than his second. Lou sticks right by my side as I closely monitor and guide her effervescent new family member's interactions with the rest of the pack. On the walk, he only pulled ahead a bit; his struggle is more with keeping his lateral position and not clipping my legs when he gets distracted and starts to veer. The rest of the pack made it easy to focus on the new pack member's walking manners, by behaving themselves wonderfully. Dylan showed some interest in Teo today, going up and sniffing at his ears while allowing Teo to lick his face. Carl is dedicated to the effort of teaching Teo some boundaries and manners by correcting him when he approaches with too much unbridled enthusiasm. Arlo enjoys the puppy energy, and liked wrestling around with Teo a bit before the walk. Racer is neither interested in nor particularly bothered by Teo's energy.

Bonus Pack

Arlo, Racer and Sanni walked around Wonderland Lake with our other newest pack member, Tozai. Tozai and Arlo walked very nicely to one side of me. On the other side, Racer walked to the outside of Sanni, who had been pulling off to the path a lot during the hike. With Racer as a buffer, Sanni walked in place much more consistently. It reminded me of how Griff served that purpose for Racer years ago, when Racer was new to the pack and always wanted to pull hard off the trail. Tozai didn't have any puppy outbursts during this walk. He was able to get a lot of that energy out wrestling with Sanni beforehand.
