Friday Pack Activities (8/30/2024)

Adventure Pack

Lumi and Lou kept shaking off while they were still wading around in Silver Lake Ditch, which caused Nelly to recoil from the bank where she was leaning down to try to get a drink. Buddy took a brief dip and then hopped out to sniff around on dry land by Nelly. Once Lumi and Lou climbed out, Nelly approached the water again. I tried cradling her and easing her down to see if she would be willing to actually get into the water. Her front paws went in without any pullback from her, and she stood awkwardly in elbow-deep water with her haunches still up on dry land while continuing to take a drink. I cupped some water and draped it over her, and she didn't really react. Then, I gave her back end a little nudge forward and she stepped down fully into the water on her own. She hung out in place for less than a minute before she decided she had enough and hopped back out with her packmates who were patiently waiting on dry land. Lumi immediately shook off again right when Nelly hopped out, and for a brief moment I considered the irony if that were to drive Nelly to back away into the water - but she just winced at the uninvited shower and then we moved on up the mountain.

Variety Pack

Carl, Lumi, and Buddy all lounged in Boulder Creek during our afternoon stroll. Lumi was feeling especially lazy after the Adventure Pack hike, and it took some convincing for him to stand back up and exit the water. Carl wanted to stop about every 5 feet to sniff and leave his mark along the footpath. Buddy got a little worked up over a skateboarder and a couple of the dogs we passed, but his woofs were quieter and his lunges less committed than in the past.
