Friday Pack Activities (12/27/2024)

Adventure Pack

Arlo and Lucy perked up with intense looks as we rounded the far edge of Enchanted Mesa. Yoshi also looked a bit curious, though not as keenly as the other two. I scanned the landscape for an idea as to what had them so on edge. I didn't see anything at first, but then some motion in the distance clued me in on the cause: a herd of deer. The three of them remained in their respective states of alertness for the rest of the hike until we neared the trail head. Meanwhile, Racer hardly lifted her head up from sniffing along the side of the trail in her usual manner. She was entirely unimpressed with the deer that had her packmates so wound up.

Variety Pack

Griff, Alfie, Lumi, Milo, Teo, Carl, Ruffers and Lou walked Bear Creek Greenway with a hand from Jen this afternoon. Teo was especially excitable today, and quite challenging to manage. Griff, Lumi and Alfie were milling around haphazardly early on, sniffing where their noses led and getting their leashes tangled up. Milo and Carl had gotten a bit worked up about the first couple dogs we passed, but then reined in their excitement as other dogs continued to pass by. Lou resisted moving forward early on, as she has a tendency to do - especially along that route - but then she started keeping up. Eventually, it became clear that the pack's mission was to be as calm and orderly as possible to help make it easier to handle Teo's energy. Our elder pack member Ruffers embodied that demeanor throughout, setting the example for the rest to follow. By the end, Teo was still having difficulty holding back and keeping on pace with the rest of us, but he had at least mellowed out enough that he wasn't whining and chirp-barking at every hint of motion in our general vicinity. Everyone else had settled into a nice, calm rhythm together.
