Adventure Pack
A new member had his first day with the pack: Yoshi! Yoshi is a very sweet, almost-10-month-old black Lab, successor to our dear late packmate Yoda. He and Lou gave each other thorough sniffs upon greeting this morning. Dylan gave him the grumpy treatment that our other recent addition, Bear, somehow avoided; he let out a whiney-pitched growl as he hopped into the packmobile and then repeated and held it several times when Yoshi stepped toward him to sniff. Yoshi got the message and didn't push it with Dylan. Shortly after starting our hike, Dylan relaxed and started sniffing Yoshi's ears while they checked out points of interest together. Dylan didn't growl at him anymore through the morning, even when they were back in the packmobile together. Yoshi was very interested in the magpies that hang out around Bluebell Road at the Chautauqua, and paused several times to watch them. He pulled around a bit for the first part of the hike, but walked almost as well as Lou and Dylan (two of the pack's most orderly walkers) for the last 1/4 stretch.
Variety Pack
After the morning hike together, Yoshi and Lou had a lot of fun wrestling around at the house. Ruffers joined for our walk around Wonderland Lake, which was calm, pleasant, and pretty uneventful. Yoshi was again interested in the nearby birds we saw while we walked, and paused to watch them intently. Altogether, it was a very nice first day with our new packmate Yoshi!
