Adventure Pack
Yoshi, Griff and Nelly headed to the mesas from the Chautauqua today. We passed a lot of other dogs along the way. At the beginning of the hike, the pack didn't pay much attention to them. On the way back down, Nelly was whining whenever another dog went by; Yoshi pulled a little bit, but otherwise kept it together. We came upon a herd of deer when Griff and Yoshi were off leash together in the middle of the hike. The boys closed about half the distance between the trail and the deer before turning back to rejoin me and Nelly. I was impressed with the amount of restraint they showed by not continuing the pursuit.
Variety Pack
Carl, Teo, Lou, Lumi, Griff and Ruffers walked Goose Creek Greenway from Valmont Park this afternoon. Lumi and Teo perked up at the sight of a prairie dog who skittered across the path ahead of us at one point and chirped from its mound as we passed it. Teo got excited and whined and pulled at every walker, jogger, bicyclist and scooter that went by throughout the walk. The rest of the pack remained calm. I borrowed from their poise and serenity to address their less decorous packmate. We only made a few stops, where everyone sniffed around beside the path. At one point, a friendly pedestrian warned of a great heron just ahead; the pack didn't notice it.
