Friday Pack Activities (1/17/2025)

Adventure Pack

Despite having hiked the Chautauqua for well over a decade with the pack, and frequently taking Mesa Trail, today was the first time we ventured down through Skunk Canyon. We didn't have any encounters with the eponymous critters, but I kept Yoshi on the leash just in case. Tozai is still getting some practice hiking with the pack before he gets to roam off leash. Carl kept to the trail, and within about 10 yards of the pack. Nelly remained on leash with the others, as always. After we were through the canyon and up on Kohler Mesa, Yoshi enjoyed running around with Carl a bit while Tozai watched them and leapt around with excitement. The whole pack was pretty interested in the other dogs we passed, and in fact Nelly was the one who pulled the most when she wanted to greet a dog who went by. It was warm and mostly sunny when we had first set out, but the cold front was starting to creep in by the time we made it back to the trail head.

Variety Pack

The skies were grey and the air was chilly when Lou, Lumi, Ruffers, and Carl headed to Valmont Park to walk Goose Creek Greenway this afternoon. No prairie dogs were out to chirp at us. The dogs kept pulling over to the side of the path to sniff around. While they investigated the brush, I noticed the scent of cow manure that often comes with the arctic winds. After a lot of stop-and-go, we eventually got moving along at a brisk pace. The air started getting chillier by the minute, and Lou was visibly concerned about the shift. The snow began to fall during the return leg of our outing.
